Taking Notes - Learning to Learn

In class today, we looked at two different ways of taking notes while reading a passage - fill-in-the-blank and a type of mind-map. Of the two, which one did you prefer? Why? Which one would help you more when studying for a test? Why? The responses to this blog are due by Friday at 3:30 - they count as a daily grade. No response by Friday will be a grade of zero - I will not take "100 passes" for these grades. Simple responses (not discussed fully) will earn a 70-75; all others will be graded based on the consideration given when responding. In other words, tell me what you think and why. ("Because" is not considered a reason.) Take your time when responding to this - I read your responses very carefully and expect you to answer them completely. Look back at the original questions. How many do you see? If you counted "4", then you're right and expected to give me 4 answers! If you didn't see 4 questions, go back and count the question marks!

Of the two different styles of notes I liked the fill-in-the-blank. I liked it because it seems like it has more information in it. To study for a test I prefer the fill-in-the-blank, I can get this type of layout into my head better...maybe I have a photographic memory. I have a more traditional way of thinking.

Out of the two methods of note taking, I prefer the fill-in-the-blank. Fill-in-the-blank contains more information than the mind-map and is alot easier to me. I like to have as much information as possible in preparation for a test. For this reason, fill-in-the-blank would help me more when studying for a test. When i look at things, I remember the layout of the information in my head and when i take the test, its like I'm reading the paper in my head
(photographic memory). Fill-in-the-blank seems to stick in my head easier than a mind map, and of course the fact that it contains more information!

Out of the two, I prefer fill-in-the-blank rather than a mind map. With fill-in-the-blank, it is easier for me to understand the information and goes over all the major points within the section. For these reasons, I think that the fill-in-the-blank would help me more in my studying. Unlike the mind map, it has more important information needed for a test and is easier to study.

Of the two note taking styles, i perfer The "mind-map", Because it illustrates the notes in a manner thatis easy to navigate through and read. the mind map would help me study for a test more efficiently and effectly because its is easier to understand and organizes the notes clearly.

1) I prefer the Reading notes study guide better.
2) It gives more detail.
3) The reading notes would help me more on a test.
4) Because i see more in depth of the topic im going over.

I prefer Mind-maps more because it gives a visual of the information.and it is also better to study because it is easier to read and remember.

fill in the blank because the mind map thing confuses me even more. fill in the blank would be easier for me to study for the test because its also less confusing.

Well for me it depends on what kind of test it is because if the test with putting things together than the mind map would work better for me, because i would have a mental picture of the objects grouped together. But if it was a qeustion-answer, or a multiplt chioce test then the fill-in-the-blank would work better because i could go back and ask myself the qeustions and it would help me better. But then again it really doesnt matter because if you study then you should know it.

I prefer using the fill-in-the-blank technique.

This process only requires youto fill in the blank when taking notes instead of having to write the complete answer in the blank box of the miond-map.

The fill-in-the-blank is also easier to study.

This process seems easier to study because, while it is a watered down version of the section, it still has more information than the mind-map, which is very plain and simple.

Fill in the blank.

It is easier to know if you are right.

Fill in the blank.

You can look for one word and study that one section.

fill in the blank

It is easier cause it it tells you exactly what to know. It doesnt just paraphrase it

1. The Mind Map

2.it really breaks the information down and and gives it in an organized way.

3. The Fill-In-The-Blank

4. Since you read the information and then have to read even more in the book to find the answer, it will probably get stuck in your head better and become easier to remember on test day.

I prefer fill-in-the blank notes. Many teachers use these kind of notes and I've grown very comfortable with it. Fill-in-the-blank notes are more usefull for taking tests because all you have do to study with them is cover up the part you filled in.

In my opinion it is easier to fill in the blank so i can read the answer and the question. or cover the answer and read the qusetion there is alot of methods you can use out of it.

I would rather prefer the mind map because it lets me think out side of the box and gives my mind room to explore and think a little. Also I think the fill in the blank would help me more on the test because its easier to understand for studing.

In my opinion it is easier to do fill i the blank beacuse i more of a look at the answer then cover the answer person and i think that would be easier if i did it that way. ~nico f~

Well mrs.hutson since you asked i prefer the fill in the blank because while you are studying it is easier to quiz yourself make flashcards and such. but, also because it is easier to see because my handwriting is terrible and you had better be glad i had to type this or else you wouldn't be able to read it. Also it is easier to be repetitive and are able to read and study for long periods of time not that we really do anyway.

=] said...

it would have to fill in the blank because that helps me more because you have to read it and look it up and use it in a sentence and by the time you done that you already know the question and answer
and the fill in the blank again cause you can read over it again and again and really look at it with the map you cant really do that and is hard cause you only know the definition and cant use it in a setence like the fill in the blank ones

I perfer the fill in the blank because it makes me look at it and in some cases you have to look up the answer and it makes you look and read the book even if you dont like to. I also thing the fill in teh blank would help me study more for a test once again because you have to look up the answers adn read the book.

i prefer the fill in the blank because while you are looking for the answer you are also having to read all the rest of the stuff. you said no simple answers, but its as SIMPLE as that!

I prefered the mind-map because it gave me an outline of everything i needed to know and was helpful on the time slot i had to cram information.I think it depends what kind of test i was taking. They are both pretty effficient for test taking. If we were taking a vocab test i would say that the fill in the blank notes would probably be more helpful. However, if we were taking a test overall the whole chapter, i would say that the mind gap would be more helpful. In summation, they both have their pros and cons but are overall good methods for studying .

I think the fill-in-the-blank to me is the easier one to understand because i have already done those types before and the mind graph takes a little longer to make.
I think that the mind graph might help me out more for a test because it brakes it all down for me and i would get a better understanding of the defintions and what is in or out...etc. for all the things i needed to understand.

hi this is taylor william.

i preferred the fill in the blank notes because they were more specific and to the point. however, when studying for a test i would probably like the mind map simply because it gives you more of a variety and lays out each sectoin of the chapter for you to go back and overlook. i like both of the methods for different instances.

I think that using the fill in the blank is a better method and helps me study for a test alot better than a mind map. i thing that it gives alot more information than a mind map and is easier for me to got into me head. the fill in the blank just seems like an all around better pick for studying for a test and using to take notes for me.
